The City of New Orleans saved 2,000 hours of manual labor. See how they did it.

The City of New Orleans works hard to make sure its people and visitors are safe. But with outdated equipment and limited resources, it can be hard to guarantee the coverage and service we’d all like.

To retrieve footage of an event, “It might take a police officer over an hour to visit business locations, speak with owners, look through video, find what they are looking for, get a copy of video onto USB keys, drive back to the precinct, and then submit that into evidence,” says George Barlow Brown, IT Manager at the New Orleans Real-Time Crime Center.

By unifying their 325 video cameras and 100 automatic license plate recognition cameras into one system, the city of New Orleans saved 2,000 hours of manual labor in physically collecting and storing video evidence. That means more time for officers to respond to calls and get out and build a community we can all be proud of.
