We're getting ready for GDPR, are you?

The European Union is about to take a major step forward in protecting its citizens’ privacy. On May 25th, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will go into full enforceable effect, making it a requirement that organizations preserve citizens’ privacy in the data they, and their security systems, are collecting.

Developed to safeguard personally identifiable information (PII) being collected on residents, the regulation will harmonize data privacy laws across Europe and codify every citizen’s privacy rights when it comes to their own data.

With fines of either 4% of global turnover or 20,000,000 EUR for non-compliance, the potential impact could be significant. And these fines could be applicable to any organization doing business or collecting data in Europe. So, you can’t wait until the regulation comes online; you need to be sure right now that you and your solutions can comply with the GDPR.

Privacy by design with KiwiVision

When it comes to understanding issues of privacy, a good place to start is the Trust Center on our website. In it, we bring together information, resources, and best practices for how to maintain the security of your security systems. And our commitment to secure systems and individual privacy extends to our solutions as well.

One example of this commitment is the KiwiVision™ Privacy Protector™ module in the Security Center platform. It dynamically anonymizes people in a camera’s field of vision while also allowing you to see the actions or movements in real-time within a scene. As a result, the module allows you to maintain a secure environment while also protecting the privacy of individuals being recorded by your video surveillance system.

At the same time, the KiwiVision module also allows you to use your video footage as reliable evidence because the original feed, in which the identity of individuals has not been anonymized, is still accessible to authorized users.

While we are proud of this technology, you might still have questions about GDPR compliance. After all, you need to be sure that we have done enough to meet GDPR standards. This is where the European Privacy Seal (EuroPriSe) can give you peace of mind.

EuroPriSe Certification

EuroPriSe is an EU-wide independent privacy seal that certifies that IT products and IT-based services are compliant with European data protection regulations. In particular, they grant certification to manufacturers and vendors of IT products and IT-based services whose offerings are GDPR-ready.

The procedure includes an evaluation by legal and IT experts and a validation of the resulting report by an independent authority. EuroPriSe has just certified KiwiVision Privacy Protector for its fourth consecutive 2-year term and considers the module to be GDPR-ready.

Note: The certifying agency EuroPriSe found that their certification was not officially "GDPR-Ready" and we strongly encourage all users of our software to follow local and governmental regulations regarding privacy.
