State of Physical Security 2020 Genetec Inc. 11 Although the actual adoption of cloud-based technology appears to be gradual in physical security, survey results do indicate a shift in that direction. 39% reported that a process for moving to the cloud was underway or moving in that direction. Responses also pointed to a hybrid approach likely being a common way forward. With the move to remote work and the need to improve remote capabilities during the pandemic and moving to 2021, it's surprising to see that there has been only a marginal effect on organizations' cloud strategies. Anecdotal comments from respondents (see Appendix #3) show concerns over the security, cost, and regulatory compliance of the cloud. It seems that a portion of organizations are missing out on the potential ROI and cybersecurity value of cloud-based and hybrid solutions. "Cloud is not trusted and expensive." – survey respondent The future for cloud in physical security HOW THE PANDEMIC HAS AFFECTED CLOUD STRATEGY IN RELATION TO PHYSICAL SECURIT Y 69% 17% 8% 6% Didn't change it/ no significant impact Greatly accelerated it Triggered it Accelerated it somewhat This limited use of cloud-based technology was also seen in the adoption of "as-a-service" technology in access control and video. Only 2.0% and 2.3% reported having deployed access control-as-a-service or video surveillance-as-a-service (VSaaS) respectively in their enterprises. Technology already deployed in their physical security environments What best describes your pre- pandemic physical security strategy? 19% Hybrid cloud solutions to manage physical security operations 17% Other cloud-based physical security solutions 39% Moving toward cloud
