Introduction
Within the last few years, insider threat incidents
have increased across the United States. As a result,
the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and
Federal Airport Authority (FAA) have implemented
stricter rules for airport employee background checks.
Authorities have since imposed regulations to automate
employee background checks in every airport, whether
small or large. This has fueled airports to find a solution
that helps to meet their evolving needs and ensures
compliance to avoid hefty fines. Some airports have
resorted to various single-purpose systems, while others
have chosen a complex Identity Management System
(IDMS) to manage their badging process and employee
background checks. Both options allow airports to
remain compliant with new regulations—but both
solutions present their own operational inefficiencies.
