This document provides you with an overview of the types of grants available and essential tips for submitting successful applications. Need help? The Genetec Grants Support Team (GGST) offers complimentary services to help agencies in the US navigate grant funding processes. GGST partners with Grants Office, a national grants development services firm with a 22-year track record of helping public sector agencies find and secure funding for technology projects. Understanding grants Grants are provided by the federal, state, and local governments and, sometimes, private foundations. Federal grants Federal grants come from agencies like the Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Homeland Security (DHS). The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) and the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) are two examples. State and local grants State and local grants offer funding tailored to specific regional needs and are managed by state administrative agencies. How to apply for a grant in 7 steps 1. Identify and plan the project: Define your project's scope, objectives, and expected outcomes. 2. Research and select your grants: Use databases and resources to find suitable grants. Or work with a software vendor, like Genetec, to help you find and submit grants to fuel your program. 3. Understand grant requirements: Review documents to understand what the grantor seeks. Your submission has to adhere to what the grantor wants to achieve. The closer you get, the higher the chances to win the grant. 4. Build partnerships and community support: Engage with local public and private stakeholders to build support. A proposal backed by the community is a stronger proposal. 5. Craft a compelling narrative: Convey your needs based on the grants you are applying for. Alignment with the grant requirements is a must. 6. Prepare your budget: Create a detailed, accurate budget aligned with project goals. 7. Submit your application: Follow guidelines meticulously and submit before the deadline.
