"The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is an impressive example. They extended IP video surveillance onboard their buses, giving their operators live access to the systems from their own control rooms. A: Every agency tells me it's a real struggle to share information with law enforcement. When they upgrade to an IP system, they are finally able to collaborate better with these external agencies. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is an impressive example. They extended IP video surveillance onboard their buses, giving their operators live access to the systems from their own control rooms. In an emergency, officers in police cruisers can also find buses on a map and pull video from mobile data terminals using a cellular connection. Transit agencies like the MBTA are also simplifying their investigations with the latest IP system features. For example, in the past, someone would have to physically go out to the bus, get the hard drive from the bus, take that back to the headquarters, and download the information. Thanks to IP connectivity, transit agencies are embracing capabilities such as automatic video offloading. Now, as soon as the bus comes close to the terminals, they can access the video.
