State of Physical Security 2020

In the physical security industry survey, approximately 1/3 of respondents report
planning or adoption of technology related to cybersecurity which is typical according
to cybersecurity expert Paul Simmonds, CISO and CEO of Global Identity Foundation:
"I would say it is fairly normal to see only 30% focused on cybersecurity. At the end of the day
if you speak to the board and get the board to rate what the risks are, cybersecurity will be
there but be number 5 or 6 on the list. When evaluating it against other risks a business deals
with day-to-day, perhaps it makes sense it is not in the top 3."
With cyber concerns as a result of the
pandemic on the rise, and most physical
security deployments remaining on-premises,
it is important that the physical security
industry prioritize cyber hardening practices
to get ahead of this major risk.
In recent years cybersecurity has become a key concern for enterprise and the need to secure
physical security systems against cyber attacks. With the onset of the pandemic and the
increase in remote work, 2020 has seen a decided spike
1
in cybercrime which is further raising
risks for organizations around the world.
Still at risk of cyber attacks

"The premise that it is more secure inside
my perimeter went away at least 10 years
ago. And that is why organizations are
getting hit by the bad guys."
