State of Physical Security 2020 Genetec Inc. 17 Survey participants were able to provide additional comments associated to some survey questions. The following are selected responses that are representative of overall sentiments: Appendix 3 – Open-ended comments Which of the following best describes how your organization views physical security and related data? • To review what actually happened during any potential Safety Policy violations for compliance of Company Safety Policies. • Ensure business continuity. • A way to ensure compliance with national and international regulations. • In our company, health and security is a priority. • Maybe not be seen as mission critical, but important for safety and security of people and assets. • University Security, with all the complications and implications of the University Community and its visitors. Which of the following best describes your video surveillance and access control implementation? • Two separate independent access control and video surveillance systems. • Initially deployed multiple vendors, but in process to combine under single manufacturer. • Separate systems, access control is separate and used for opening doors and time and attendance, video is used for monitoring and forensic investigation. • Instances range from non-integrated to integrated systems across the enterprise. • While our Group Standard has one vendor for our security platform, we have several sites that use other manufactures for video system and access control. • Currently migrating from multiple vendor systems to a unified solution. How is your organization's physical security infrastructure structured? • All security measures are determined by the chief, technology requirement, acquisition, and deployment is that of the Tech Sergeant. • Each building is managed independently. • The physical security of the facilities is developed by the military police, through a command center and this in turn to the National Defense staff. • Directors take care of security. • Each entity is responsible for its physical and technological security. What best describes your pre-pandemic physical security (as it relates to use of cloud technology)? • Our investment in on-site security systems have prov- en to be sufficiently secure and the type of business we are in practically doesn't suit cloud environment. May be if the cost and intelligent features are proven to significantly save on cost or provide some new discovered benefits, we may think of upgrading. • We have no intention of moving to a cloud-based system. • More a hybrid cloud but yes. • Cloud explored but not suitable for Security purposes. • Cybersecurity offerings will be cloud based. • We do not plan on going to the cloud. • Cloud based storage and technology as it relates to security and surveillance will not be used in the foreseeable future due regulatory requirements. • We are K-12 Education. From physical security point of view, cloud is scary. • Cloud is not trusted and expensive. • Find it hard to move to outside firewall cloud services in Company. • The cloud is forbidden to us in certain areas, for security reasons. • We have had all the information in the cloud, with a continuity plan to avoid cyberattacks.
