In our cities, public safety is paramount, and the role of technology becomes even more important. When it comes to public safety, inter-city collaboration between hospitals, city parking garages, airports, transit, universities, highways, and venues is essential to respond to events effectively and appropriately, including crimes and natural disasters. A federated city encapsulates the notion that stakeholders within a city (Police, Fire, EMS, city managers, enterprise executives, BIDs, and community leaders) partner with each other in a meaningful way to achieve a common purpose within the context of urban security. Consider a federation as a form of partnership that is more trusting, more open, and more mission-driven than having stakeholders merely network with each other.
