Digital forensics A 2014 Texas state legislation on discovery guidelines changed how the Galveston County Sheriff's Office (GSCO) collects and stores digital evidence from the 20 agencies on its territory. With the ever-increasing amount of evidence–from body and car camera systems, interviews, crime scene photos, Galveston County had to move away from using physical media. Clearance has become its secure repository for all digital evidence and case-related documentation. Officers can easily collect data in the field with the mobile app to further streamline collection. Clearance makes it easy to share data, which allows the GCSO to respond to Public Information Act requests efficiently and improves collaboration with the District Attorney's office. The implementation has saved them countless hours by streamlining evidence collection and the discovery processes of the county. Body-worn cameras, in-car video, community cameras, and record management system The New Brighton Department of Public Safety integrated Clearance with their record management, body-cam, and in-car video systems. This eliminated the logistics of managing incongruent siloed systems, which took officers time from investigating cases. Previously, data management processes had impacted their ability to handle the high volume of requests they received. Their new solution centralizes and automates many steps of the evidence collection and sharing workflows. It provides a platform for native playback, facilitating evidence reviews of BWC and in-car recordings in conjunction with records detail. As a result, the department can respond to the thousands of digital media requests per year that were paralyzing its records staff. In particular, the camera registry and file request functionalities have greatly improved video collection from partners like the Minnesota DOT and citizens and businesses. This leads to more relevant evidence being available for review, which helps move investigations along.
